Back to Luxembourg host and creator Matthew Foster is a graphic designer and playwright who has a deep, dorky love of civics, history and language. He spent much of his career as a freelancer for nonprofits and small businesses, and today works in the public sector. In theater, Matthew most recently created a series of (surprisingly entertaining and funny) civic-minded pieces adapted from texts from U.S. history, including Themselves They Made Immaculate: Clara Barton at Andersonville and It Is So Ordered: The Supreme Court's Greatest Hits. The great-great-grandson of immigrants from Eich and Junglinster, Matthew was born and raised in South Dakota and made his déclaration d'option for Luxembourg nationality in 2023. He lives in Minneapolis with his partner and fellow Luxembourgish-American Luxembourger, Mark, and their two cats, Warren and Clyde, neither of whom know what Luxembourg even is, despite having heard an enormous amount about it.
